APOLOGY ISSUED BY INDIVIDUAL WHO ADVOCATED FOR HARM AGAINST REMI TINUBU

Sanusi Abubakar, who previously advocated for the killing of Senator Remi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, has contacted the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), recanting his statements and issuing an apology.

Identifying himself as an Islamic scholar, Abubakar reached out to MURIC to retract his earlier provocative and misguided call for the assassination of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s wife.

Malam Hassan Sani Indabawa, the Chairman of MURIC in Kano State, stated in a Tuesday release that MURIC’s headquarters had already condemned and disassociated itself from the man on the same day he made the inappropriate call.

According to Malam Indabawa, in a video clip sent to the Sokoto chapter of MURIC on February 26, 2024, Abubakar fully withdrew his offensive statements, acknowledging that his teachings were misleading, his claims were false, and his extremist views could incite violence.

Indabawa commented on the video, stating, “The man apparently realised his egregious gaffe by reaching out to MURIC to register the withdrawal of his wild call by agreeing with MURIC that his teachings are misleading, his claims are false and his extremist views are capable of pushing some ignorant youths into unnecessary violence.”

Abubakar admitted that his claims were unIslamic and lacked any basis in Islam. He revealed that he had been influenced by political considerations and made the inflammatory statement during the 2023 presidential campaigns, exposing how some individuals are manipulated by desperate politicians to spread hate and divisive politics.

Malam Indabawa urged both Muslim and Christian leaders in Nigeria to scrutinize the involvement of certain clerics in partisan politics. He called for measures to regulate their sermons and preaching to prevent hate campaigns, emphasizing the need for religious leaders to promote understanding and peaceful coexistence.

It is worth recalling that Abubakar, also known as Idris Tenshi, had described the president’s wife as an “infidel” who should be killed during a sermon.
