WORLD BANK-IFC GROWAFRICA INTERN PROGRAM 2024 FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

Applications are now open for the 2024 IFC MAS GrowAfrica Intern Program. GrowAfrica is seeking six interns to work on Upstream and Advisory projects aimed at reducing operational risks in IFC investment projects by:

  • Strengthening supply chains
  • Addressing food security
  • Increasing collaboration with the World Bank
  • Building farmers’ capacities
  • Improving product traceability and food safety

Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to the agriculture industry and gain valuable experience. They will work under the overall supervision of the Project Leader and the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator.

GrowAfrica Projects:

  1. Agri-commodity Trader Capacity Expansion: Increase sourcing from farmers.
  2. Sustainable Agricultural Practices in Uganda: Improve business management for coffee farmers.
  3. Agriculture Production in Angola: Focus on poultry and coffee sectors.
  4. Cotton Sector Revival in Mozambique: Increase productivity and establish a reliable supply chain.
  5. Food Security Heatmap: Identify investment opportunities to reduce import dependency in Africa.
  6. World Bank Collaboration: Leverage IFC’s private sector experience to benefit World Bank operations.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Preferably a master’s or PhD, with at least two years of work experience.
  • Studying agricultural fields such as crop science, agricultural economics, agronomy, soil management, social science, or economics. Experience related to the projects is advantageous.
  • Initiative, prioritization, multitasking, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Effective communication skills in multicultural and multilingual environments (English required; Hausa for Nigeria projects, Portuguese for Angola/Mozambique, French for Senegal projects).
  • Knowledge of African agribusiness challenges and opportunities.
  • Clear and systematic thinking, good judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Results-oriented and a team player with good interpersonal skills.

Remuneration:

  • Working hours: No more than 40 hours per week, up to 160 hours per month.
  • Internship stipend: Negotiated based on experience and qualifications.

Expected Start Date:

  • June 1, 2024 – July 31, 2024, with a tenure of a minimum of two months and up to six months.

Reporting:

  • Interns will report to the Project Leader and be directly supervised by the Project Coordinator for each project.
