Data from the UK Universities and College Admissions Service (UCAS) for the 2024-25 academic year reveals a 1% decline in UK applicants, but overall numbers remain high. The declining interest in UK study programs is attributed to visa restrictions and the depreciation of the Nigerian naira. Italy, Finland, and Austria are becoming popular European destinations, while Australia and New Zealand are attracting increasing numbers of Nigerian students.
Canada emerges as a favored alternative, with a 44% increase in study permits issued to Nigerians in the first six months of 2023. The US also sees a 22.2% rise in Nigerian enrollment, making Nigeria the only African country among the top 10 countries with the highest number of students in America.
