UNIVERSITY OF BONN SDG FELLOWSHIPS 2024 FOR SCHOLARS RESEARCHING THE UN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS) (FUNDED)

Applications are now open for the 2024 University of Bonn SDG Fellowships. Invitation of scholars preferably from Africa, Latin America, and South/ East) Asia for research on Sustainable Development Goals-related topics (for periods of 3–12 months).

Through this fellowship program, tenured faculty (in the rank of professor) at the University of Bonn can invite international postdoctoral fellows for a joint research project on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as set forth by the United Nations in its Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. The scientists should research and teach together with a professor from the University of Bonn for one or two semesters.

Eligibility Requirements

Post-doctoral researchers (with foreign citizenship) are invited by a professor at the University of Bonn to collaborate on a joint research project. The fellow should demonstrate a long-term affiliation with a university or research institute in the specified regions beyond their fellowship and exhibit expertise in an area of research aligned with the thematic spectrum of the SDGs. Please note that the International Office cannot facilitate contact between interested fellows and faculty at the University of Bonn.

Funding

The funding includes:

  • A travel allowance (dependent on country of origin)
  • A scholarship of €3,000 per month (with additional funds available for family members: up to €300 for a spouse and €250 per child)
  • A research expense allowance of up to €500 per month

Insurance benefits are not covered by the scholarship, and housing for scholarship recipients is not provided by the International Office.

The funding period ranges from a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 12 months. Please adhere to the instructions provided in the financing plan (available for download as an Excel file) when calculating costs.

Submission Requirements

The application must be jointly submitted by a full-time professor at the University of Bonn and the fellow. Please note that the International Office cannot facilitate contact between interested fellows and faculty at the University of Bonn.

    • Abstract of the proposed project (up to 250 words)
    • Outline of the research project to be undertaken during the fellow’s tenure in Bonn; the proposal should be accessible to a multidisciplinary audience
    • Explanation of the fellow’s invitation and their anticipated contributions to research and teaching at the University of Bonn, as well as activities enriching university life during their stay
    • Overview of the collaboration between the applicant and the fellow to date
    • Plan for integrating the fellow into the host institute (workplace, involvement in teaching and research activities)
    • Plan for the outcome of the fellowship and strategies for further collaboration in the future.
