UNIVERSAL POSTAL UNION (UPU) INTERNATIONAL LETTER-WRITING COMPETITION 2024 FOR YOUNG PEOPLE.
Application Deadline: May 5, 2024
Applications are now open for the 2024 Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter-Writing Competition. Since 1971, the UPU has encouraged young writers aged 9-15 to write letters on a given theme to win exciting prizes. The competition is an excellent way of making young people aware of the important role postal services play in our societies.
The UPU’s International Bureau, responsible for the secretariat, annually selects and publicizes a theme. Participating countries then host national competitions through the Post, often with support from educational authorities and media.
In 2024, participants will be invited to ponder on the future of the world with the theme: “At 150 years old, the UPU has served people globally for over eight generations. The world has undergone immense changes since then. Write a letter to future generations about the world you hope they inherit.”
This year, the UPU collaborates with UNICEF for the 53rd International Letter-Writing Competition, aiming to empower children and youth worldwide by fostering literacy and creativity through letter writing.
This campaign seeks to amplify the voices of children and youth, providing them with a platform, ahead of the Future Summit and the 35th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, to express their views on the world and the legacy they wish to pass on to future generations. It offers an opportunity for children and young people to influence a global audience, including policymakers, and to be respected and valued while promoting literacy and creativity.
