TINUBU ENDORSES #WEAREEQUAL CAMPAIGN FOR GENDER EQUITY IN AFRICA

Tinubu expressed that empowering girls to pursue their dreams is crucial for thriving communities, prosperous economies, and successful nations. He endorsed the #WeAreEqual campaign during his speech at the launch event organized by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), hosted by Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady.

He emphasized the significance of education, stating that it is the cornerstone of national development. Tinubu highlighted that the empowerment of girls is essential for achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, and he commended the commitment of African first ladies to advancing gender equality.

Tinubu congratulated OAFLAD members for their dedication to narrowing the gender gap in opportunities across Africa. He particularly praised his wife, the First Lady of Nigeria, for championing education as a primary tool for the #WeAreEqual campaign nationwide.

He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian child receives quality education, especially girls, to prepare them to lead and bring positive changes to their communities. Tinubu launched the #WeAreEqual Campaign in Nigeria, urging all Nigerians to support it.

He noted that the campaign has already been successfully launched in 15 other African countries, focusing on health, education, economic empowerment, and gender-based violence. Tinubu emphasized the importance of education as a powerful tool for change and Africa’s development.

He commended the reintroduction of the Alternative High School for Girls by the First Lady, which offers a second chance to girls who have dropped out of school to pursue their education and fulfill their aspirations. Tinubu mentioned that the foundation stone of one of the schools was recently laid in Osun State, with more schools underway across the country, supported by various stakeholders.

Tinubu also acknowledged the contributions of OAFLAD members, development partners, civil society organizations, and the diplomatic community to the #WeAreEqual campaign.

The #WeAreEqual campaign, initiated by OAFLAD, has been launched in 15 African countries, focusing on health, education, economic empowerment, and gender-based violence.
