Scholarship Programme & Internships
The Scholarship Programme of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung
The promotion of young talent has been one of the founding principles of the FES. The first scholarships were awarded to particularly talented young individuals from a working class milieu who were taking an active part in the young democracy of the Weimar Republic.
For the FES therefore, it is not only the applicants’ academic achievement but also their social and political involvement and their personal attitudes that play an important part in the selection process.
Who is eligible?
The FES supports students from public or state-approved universities and from polytechnical colleges. It supports all academic subjects and postgraduate programmes. It is also possible for non-German students to apply for the scholarship programme. They, however, need to study in Germany at the time of application.
In order to find out more about the application process and who to contact please visit the FES Scholarship Department website.

- Commitment to the political ideas and values of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung
International Interns
FES Nigeria strives to offer internships to both international and national applicants in order to enhance intercultural learning and cooperation. In case applicants from abroad wish to apply for an internship at FES Nigeria, please consider the following additional costs which FES cannot sponsor:
- Travel costs to and from Nigeria
- International health insurance – this is a mandatory requirement and will be checked before your arrival in the country
- Housing and general living expenses in Abuja
- Costs for visa and residence permits
Furthermore, FES Nigeria encourages international interns to be covered with an international third-party liability and accident insurance as we cannot be held liable as an organization in case of personal loss or damage during the internship period.
Please submit your application with sufficient time ahead (at least four months) of your preferred internship as the organization of necessary procedures as well as your personal matters will take ample time. We are looking forward to receiving your applications!
Kindly note that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation, we are currently not receiving internship applications from applicants based outside of Nigeria.
The availability of our internship position for prospective international students will be determined by the state of post-COVID19 inter-country travels and the enforcement of FES Nigeria internal health and safety guidelines. Pending the outcome of these factors, we hope to accommodate international interns from 2022.
Interested applicants should submit in English:
- Letter of motivation (one page)
- Curriculum Vitae
- Preferred period of internship
