Call for the Mercatus Center’s Elinor Ostrom Fellowship 2024 is open now!!! 

The Mercatus Center’s Elinor Ostrom Fellowship is a one-year, competitive fellowship program awarded to PhD students from any university and any discipline, including but not limited to economics, philosophy, political science, and sociology.

A one-year program for doctoral students from any university and discipline who are interested in the themes of markets, culture, morality, and sociality in political economy.

The aim of this fellowship is to expose students to the themes of markets, culture, morality, and sociality within the Austrian, Virginia, and Bloomington schools of political economy and to provide them with the tools needed to utilize this framework in academic research that explore these themes. Elinor Ostrom Fellows spend three weekends during the academic year participating in colloquia on these three schools of political economy. Fellows will join a network of Mercatus students, alumni, and scholars who are conducting and engaging with cutting-edge research in contemporary political economy.

Applications for the 2024-2025 academic year are due March 15, 2024.

In 1980, when Mercatus got its start in supporting graduate study of economics, its initial group consisted of just three students. Today, Mercatus is the largest supporter of graduate students at Mason and offers fellowships at all levels of study, both for students at Mason and other colleges and universities around the world. Many of their alumni go on to pursue influential careers in academia, government, and policymaking.

 Eligibilities

In order to be accepted into the Elinor Ostrom Fellowship program, the applicant must be:

  • Enrolled in a PhD program from any university and in any discipline

Eligible Regions: Open for all.

 

 

 APPLICATION PROCESS

The online application includes:

  • A 1-2 page cover letter explaining:
    • The applicant’s graduate school career to date,
    • The applicant’s research interests and current projects, and
    • How the applicant’s research and current projects would benefit from a greater understanding of the themes of markets, culture, morality, and sociality within the Austrian, Virginia and Bloomington schools of political economy
  • A current resume/CV
  • A few short answer questions
  • Application review will begin after the deadline, and it is anticipated decisions will begin to be announced approximately eight to twelve weeks after the deadline.
