The Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) recently praised Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan for his book titled ‘Cyber Politics: Social Media, Social Demography, and Voting Behaviour in Nigeria’.
Prof. Umaru Pate, President of ACSPN, expressed this approval during a special book reading and review at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State.
He congratulated Dr. Ibietan on the successful publication and presentation of his book, stating, “I congratulate Dr Omoniyi Ibietan on the successful publication and presentation of his book on cyber politics in Nigeria.”
Prof. Pate, a seasoned professor of Media and Society, described Dr. Ibietan as an active member of ACSPN who promotes innovative communication education through publications and knowledge sharing platforms, in line with the association’s objectives.
He emphasized the importance of understanding the evolving trend, influence, and impact of cyber politics in Nigeria within the academic community and communication scholarship. Prof. Pate appreciated Dr. Ibietan’s intensive research in this area and applauded the transformation of his study into a textbook for wider circulation.
Commenting on the book, Prof. Pate noted that it contributes significantly to the conceptual and empirical dimensions of political communication. He expressed enrichment from the arguments and conclusions presented in the book, stating that it increased his understanding of the relationship between social media and politics in Nigeria.
ACSPN welcomed the book as a valuable addition to the growing literature in the field, particularly for its Nigerian context. Prof. Pate recommended it as essential reading for students of communication studies, political science, and related fields.

Prof. Abiodun Salawu of the North-West University, South Africa, who supervised Dr. Ibietan’s doctoral thesis, also commended the author for his scholarship and commitment.
“I had the privilege of supervising the PhD thesis from which this book by Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan emanated. It was a pleasure supervising Omoniyi’s thesis as he was very conversant with the literature of the study. I must say that I learnt from the literature he used,” Salawu said.
He praised Dr. Ibietan’s effective academic writing and dedication to his work, noting that he took a year’s leave to focus exclusively on the study.
Prof. Salawu expressed confidence that the ideas, findings, and recommendations contained in the book would benefit a wider readership, affirming Dr. Ibietan’s contribution to scholarship in the field of cyber politics in Nigeria.
