POLICE CONDUCT OPERATION AGAINST GUNMEN IN ANAMBRA FOLLOWING SIT-AT-HOME ORDER, SEIZE AMMUNITION AND RECOVER STOLEN VEHICLES.

Following the intrusion of gunmen into a village market in Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, attempting to enforce the monthly sit-at-home order, security forces have successfully dismantled a camp associated with the criminals.

Additionally, law enforcement recovered five vehicles believed to have been seized by the gang during their illicit operations.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, clarified that the gunmen managed to escape with injuries when members of the Joint Task Force raided their sanctuary.

In a statement released by the PPRO, it was highlighted that the security forces acted based on classified information about the location of the hideout.

The spokesperson stated that the miscreants disrupted business activities at Achalla Market on Monday by instructing traders to observe a sit-at-home order.

“This caught the attention of the security apparatus in the state, prompting the state police command to decide on reciprocating in the early hours of Monday, 19th February 2024.

The operation, deemed highly successful, resulted in the recovery of five high-end vehicles previously seized at gunpoint.

Additionally, more than 300 rounds of Machine Gun Ammunition and 34 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition for AK-47 Rifles were successfully retrieved. All operatives from various services have safely returned to their base,” he explained.

The Commissioner of Police has instructed the owners of the recovered vehicles to present proof of ownership to reclaim their vehicles. Furthermore, a manhunt for the fleeing insurgents will be extended to hospitals and clinics to ensure their apprehension and subsequent legal action.
