The Plateau State Government in Nigeria is initiating a collaborative effort with the Algorand Foundation, an organization dedicated to enhancing the ecosystem for the world’s most advanced, secure, and reliable layer-1 blockchain. Their goal is to create pilot programs utilizing blockchain technology.

Playing a pivotal role in governing and administering state services, the Plateau State Government oversees daily operations across various sectors, including judiciary, legislation, procurement, and healthcare.

In partnership with the Algorand Foundation, the Plateau State Government aims to explore blockchain applications across multiple sectors.

Engr. Datong, Dominic Gwaman, Director General of the Plateau State Information and Communications Technology Development Agency (PITCDA), highlighted Nigeria’s leading digital economy sector in Africa. He expressed anticipation for collaborating with the Algorand Foundation on real-world use cases that enhance efficiency, transparency, and access to public services, while also fostering new job opportunities.

The Algorand Foundation has made substantial investments in Nigeria, particularly in software developer education. Since 2021, over 500 software developers were trained in 2023 alone, with more than 10% of them hailing from Plateau State, showcasing the state’s tech talent.

In December 2023, the Foundation organized events, including a workshop and a policy dinner with senior members of the Plateau State Government, aiming to foster collaboration.

Ben Onuoha, Country Head for Nigeria at Algorand Foundation, expressed excitement about collaborating with the Plateau State Government on capacity development for software developers and creating real-world use cases that bring social and economic benefits.

In addition to the government partnership, the Algorand Foundation is actively supporting the local community and culture in Nigeria by sponsoring The Incredible Music Festival (IMF) scheduled from February 22-24, 2024, in Jos, Plateau State.

The Foundation is also hosting a workshop with Algogems, an NFT marketplace, during the IMF to introduce creatives to Web3 and integrate them into the digital economy.
