PETER OBI’S VISIT TO ATIKA, SARAKI, AND LAMIDO REVEALED: THE PURPOSES BEHIND THE MEETING

POLITICAL ENTHUSIASTS AND PUNDITS PREDICT ALLIANCE AMONG OPPOSITION PARTIES AHEAD OF 2027 POLLS TO UNSEAT PRESIDENT BOLA TINUBU AND APC.

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 presidential race, held a closed-door meeting with three prominent northern politicians in Abuja on Monday, May 13.

Obi also separately met with Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa State, and Bukola Saraki, the former Senate President.

The meetings have sparked speculation about a potential alliance before the 2027 general elections.

There is talk of the PDP collaborating with other significant political entities in Nigeria, which could pose a significant challenge to the ruling APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, marking a significant shift in the political landscape.

Yunusa Tanko, the Labour Party’s director of media, revealed that the discussions focused on the nation’s progress.

Tanko stated, “Mr. Peter Obi is committed to the peace and progress of the nation. He is dedicated to the emergence of a Nigeria that works for all its people and where poverty is quickly eradicated.

“The discussions centered on the state of the nation and how to alleviate the suffering of all Nigerians, regardless of class and location.

“Particular emphasis was placed on the desperate condition of the less privileged in our society, with a focus on the worrisome situation in the Northern parts of the country.”

It’s worth noting that the APC employed similar tactics after merging the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

The merger gained strength when the breakaway faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the new PDP—a faction of the then-ruling People’s Democratic Party—joined forces to unseat ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
