NITDA CHIEF CALLS FOR SAFE AND INCLUSIVE DIGITAL SPACE FOR NIGERIA

Kashifu Inuwa, the director general of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has reiterated the need for a safe and inclusive online environment responsible for human and Artificial Intelligence (AI) practices in country.

Kashifu Inuwa, head of Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), met with a team from TikTok to discuss potential collaboration.
The focus of the partnership would be on bolstering Nigeria’s digital space, aligning with President Buhari’s emphasis on national security.

Content Moderation and Digital Safety

Inuwa stressed the importance of content moderation strategies to address online issues like hate speech, misinformation, and cyberbullying, particularly for protecting minors.
He highlighted the recently implemented code of practice for online platforms as a step towards improved digital safety.

Alignment with TikTok’s Initiatives

  • Tokunbo Ibrahim, head of Government Regulation and Public Policy for TikTok in Nigeria and West Africa, praised NITDA’s work and its alignment with TikTok’s goals.
  • She highlighted existing TikTok programs like the Africa Creator Hub, which supports and educates content creators.
  • Ibrahim emphasized TikTok’s commitment to online safety and providing a thriving and productive environment for users.
  • She mentioned the “African Mall” initiative, designed to promote African products and services globally.
