NINE OUTSTANDING FINALISTS EMERGE TO COMPETE FOR THE GRAND PRIZE OF N12.5 MILLION IN THE INTERSWITCHSPAK 5.0 COMPETITION.

Interswitch, a prominent digital payment and commerce company in Africa, has unveiled the nine contenders who will vie for a portion of the N12.5 million scholarships in the 5th installment of the InterswitchSPAK National Science Competition. The event is scheduled for Sunday, January 21, 2024, marking a significant milestone as it commemorates the competition’s fifth anniversary.

As part of Interswitch Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the InterswitchSPAK competition aims to ignite a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects among high school students.

This fifth edition signifies Interswitch Group’s unwavering dedication to advancing STEM education across the African continent. The competition witnessed 81 exceptional students from various secondary schools across Nigeria engage in head-to-head challenges, assessing their speed, perseverance, accuracy, knowledge, and problem-solving skills in STEM subjects.

The top nine finalists, displaying exceptional brilliance in various STEM subjects, have emerged from this highly competitive process:

  1. Best Isijola – Oritamefa Baptist Model School, Oyo State
  2. Ayobami Ibigbami – St. Gregory’s College, Ikoyi, Lagos State
  3. Emmanuel Omoegbelaghan – The Cresent International School, Ogun State
  4. Emmanuel Angelo-Hyuwa – The Ambassadors College, Ogun State
  5. Akinola Mofifoluwa – The Ambassadors College, Ogun State
  6. Jesse Obed – Graceland International School, Rivers State
  7. Abraham Daramola – Hallmark Secondary School, Ondo State
  8. Otana Agunbiade – OAU International School, Ile-ife, Osun State
  9. Raphael Ogwanighie – St. Finbarr’s College, Lagos State

These finalists, having demonstrated exceptional brilliance, will compete for prestigious prizes in a highly anticipated grand finale.

The first-place winner will receive a university education scholarship valued at N7.5 million, spanning five years, including a monthly stipend, a brand-new laptop, and the recognition as the top STEM student in Nigeria.

The second-place winner will be awarded a N4 million university education scholarship spread over three years, accompanied by a monthly stipend and a brand-new laptop.

The third-place winner will receive a N1 million scholarship covering one full year of university education.

With a total prize value of USD6 million over the last five years, spanning Nigeria and Kenya, these rewards underscore Interswitch Group’s commitment to acknowledging and rewarding excellence in STEM education.

Mitchell Elegbe, Founder and Group Managing Director of Interswitch Group, expressed delight in witnessing the outstanding performance and dedication of the participating students. He emphasized that InterswitchSPAK is not just a competition but a transformative journey empowering young minds to envision and secure a future in STEM, contributing to innovation in Nigeria and Africa.

Cherry Eromosele, Executive Vice President and Group Marketing and Communication Officer at Interswitch Group, echoed the company’s pride in the remarkable talent and determination of the top nine finalists. She emphasized the competition’s role in nurturing and empowering the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers, bridging the gap in STEM education in Nigeria and across Africa.

Eromosele anticipated the grand finale as a celebration of academic excellence, where the young STEM champions will compete for ultimate recognition and life-changing rewards. The competition continues to air on DSTV Africa Magic Family Channel 154 every Sunday at 6:00 pm, with a repeat broadcast on Wednesdays at 3:30 pm on the same channel. Alternatively, viewers can catch the broadcast on AIT Network every Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
