NBA Africa’s Triple Double Accelerator Program 2024 is now open for applications. The program aims to support African startups and entrepreneurs in the sports and creative industries by providing mentorship and capital to accelerate their growth.

REQUIREMENTS

• Operations must be headquartered in Africa.
• Product alignment with one of the five Sports and Creative startup categories.
• Proven demand for the product and/or service through a strong customer base and/or revenue.
• Demonstrable impact and/or relevancy to the broader African continent.

ELIGIBLE CATEGORIES OF STARTUPS

1. Live Event Experience and Ticketing
   • Improving live events through enhanced ticketing, entry, or in-arena/stadium experience.
2. Digital Fan Platforms and Connectivity
   • Creating innovative ways to collect fan data, offer targeted offerings, and establish digital hubs for fans to connect.
3. AI for Consumers
   • Developing new AI-based products for fans, such as content dubbing in local languages or an NBA chatbot.
4. Investing in Youth
   • Creating tools to promote life skills, positive habits, and other programs for the highly digitally-connected African youth population.
5. Other Sports and Creative Startups
   • Innovating and disrupting any sector within the sports, entertainment, and creative industries.

PRIZES

1st Place:

• $50,000 cash + $50,000 value-in-kind

2nd Place:

• $40,000 cash + $40,000 value-in-kind

3rd Place:

• $30,000 cash + $30,000 value-in-kind

4th Place:

• $20,000 cash + $20,000 value-in-kind

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

STEP 1: Written Application

• Deadline: May 22, 2024
• Founders must complete the online application (takes roughly 60 mins).
• Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

STEP 2: One-way Video Interview

• Deadline: May 31, 2024
• Selected startups will be invited for a one-way video interview.
• Video submissions should not exceed 5 minutes.

STEP 3: Selection Process

• Date: June 6, 2024
• Judges will evaluate submissions and select the top startups.
• All applicants will be informed of their application status.

STEP 4: Mentorship

• Duration: June to August 2024
• The accelerator program includes mentorship, workshops, and pitch practice for Demo Day.
• Required time commitment: 4 hours per week (excluding Demo Day).

STEP 5: Demo Day

• Date: September 2024
• Participating startups pitch to global industry leaders in New York City for a chance to win prizes.
