Józef Tischner Junior Visiting Fellowship 2024-2025 (Fully Funded)
Call for applications for 2024-2025 Józef Tischner Junior Visiting Fellowship are open now!
All academic disciplines in the humanities and social sciences are eligible for Józef Tischner Fellowships; however, a thematic connection to one of the Institute’s study areas is highly recommended. The Józef Tischner Junior Fellows will be granted permission to work on their research projects at the IWM for a duration of four months, starting in September 2024 and ending in June 2025.
The IWM’s first president was Józef Tischner (1931–2000), one of the most important Polish philosophers of the 20th century and the organization’s first chaplain. Since 2003, fellowships in his honour have been given to young Polish-American scholars and junior researchers in Poland. The Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) is an institute of advanced studies in the humanities and social sciences. Krzysztof Michalski, a young Polish philosopher, and two German colleagues founded it in neutral Austria in 1982 as a place of encounter. Its original goal was to provide a venue for the gathering of famous Western academics and dissident Eastern European thinkers.
Together With The Polish Ministry Of Science And Education a monthly stipend will be awarded to postdoctoral candidates, meaning those who have defended their PhD by the deadline for fellowship applications; candidates who are still pursuing their PhD will also receive a monthly stipend to cover living expenses, travel, health insurance, and any other incidental costs associated with their stay in Vienna.
Furthermore, the IWM offers free office space, internet access, internal research and administrative facilities, and other services to Visiting Fellows. The Visiting Fellows will become a part of the academic community and take part in Institute events. Fellowships typically begin on the first and terminate on the last day of each month. Senior Visiting Fellowships in this program are granted by invitation only. Expert panellists will choose the finalists. The jury’s verdict will be communicated to the applicants during the spring semester of 2024. The jury is not compelled to provide applicants specific feedback on their applications or to publicly defend its choices.
