“JIM, CHIME, OTHERS PRAISE MBAH’S FIRST YEAR, CALL ENUGU A CONSTRUCTION ZONE”
Prominent leaders of Enugu State have commended Governor Peter Mbah for his tremendous impact, stating that his efforts in just one year could make Enugu the top destination for investment, tourism, and living within the next four years.
This commendation was given during a state banquet at the Old Government Lodge, Enugu, marking the governor’s first anniversary in office. The event was attended by former governors Jim Nwobodo, Sullivan Chime, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, alongside members of the National Assembly and State House of Assembly, traditional and political leaders, among others.
The leaders urged total support for Governor Mbah and advised him to ignore naysayers, as his works would eventually speak for themselves. Former governor Sullivan Chime highlighted the governor’s achievements, noting that Enugu had effectively become a construction site and that water scarcity was no longer an issue.
Chime shared a personal anecdote, saying, “I thank the governor and his team for their efforts so far. In my house, I used to rely on a tanker for water, which consumed 400 liters of diesel. My blood pressure would rise every time we needed to buy fuel for the tanker. But now, we have water.”
He emphasized the positive impact of these changes on residents’ lives and assured that by 2027, Governor Mbah wouldn’t need to campaign for a second term. Chime recounted similar experiences during his tenure when initial criticisms turned into praise once projects were completed.
“You all remember the criticisms we faced when we were in government. Anytime we embarked on development, there were negative talks. When we developed Polo Park Mall, I was heavily criticized. A reverend priest even used my name in a mass sermon. But once the project was completed, those same critics started praising it.”
Chime also mentioned the backlash he faced when developing Coal City Garden and the new state secretariat. Despite the initial resistance, these projects eventually received widespread approval.
Chime urged the public to support the current administration, stating, “When I see criticisms about demolitions on social media, I believe this government is on the right track. A government that wants to work will face resistance. In South Korea, old structures were demolished to build something new and presentable.”
Echoing Chime’s sentiments, former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, advised Governor Mbah to stay focused on his vision. He shared an incident where someone asked him to speak to Mbah about the demolition of Gariki park. Nwobodo refused, believing the governor had good intentions.
He encouraged the people of Enugu to be patient and support the governor, saying, “Good things take time to manifest. With what he has done in one year, I am confident that by next year, everyone will be looking forward to his second term.
