The music emanating from Nigeria has gained global recognition in recent years, becoming an integral part of the nation’s culture with a staggering 30 million monthly consumers worldwide. Beyond its cultural significance, the Nigerian music industry plays a pivotal role in the country’s economy, generating over $2 billion in revenue and providing employment for a substantial portion of the massive Nigerian labor force. However, this thriving industry is currently undergoing a profound transformation, driven by rapid advancements in modern technologies and the digital revolution. Amidst this dynamic landscape, the industry faces not only creative prosperity but also intricate challenges that necessitate innovative solutions.
Despite the notable progress and global acclaim, the Nigerian music industry encounters obstacles that impede its growth. The sector’s latent potential remains constrained, largely existing within the informal sector. Compounding these limitations are challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, insufficient funding, rampant piracy, and a lack of robust rights protection measures.
Against this backdrop, the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, in partnership with Aristokrat Group is organising a one-day conference on the Nigerian music industry. We extend an invitation for the submission of papers that contribute to the discourse surrounding the contemporary music landscape in Nigeria. The event hopes to bring together professionals, scholars, industry leaders, and enthusiasts to discuss the possibilities, trends, and developments in the music industry while offering valuable opportunities to expand knowledge, network, and maximize the possibility for national development.
