IN 1 WEEK, TROOPS ELIMINATE 286 TERRORISTS, LIBERATE 122 HOSTAGES – DHQ
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) reported significant achievements by the Nigerian troops in the past week. In various operational theaters across the country, the following outcomes were recorded:
- Terrorists Eliminated: 286
- Terrorists Apprehended: 244
- Kidnapped Hostages Rescued: 122
- Perpetrators of Oil Theft Apprehended: 83
- Estimated Sum Denied to Oil Thieves: N2.5 billion
Additionally, the troops recovered a substantial amount of weapons and ammunition, including 587 assorted weapons and 7,943 assorted ammunition. The recovered items include 207 AK47 rifles, 56 locally fabricated guns, 17 pump-action guns, 10 locally fabricated pistols, 22 dane guns, and 10 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), among others.
The breakdown of the operations in different regions is as follows:
North East (Operation Hadin Kai):
- Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists killed: 70
- Arrested: 31
- Rescued kidnapped hostages: 27
- Recovered weapons and ammunition: 47 AK47 rifles, 1,163 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 604 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, among others.
North Central (Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke):
- Insurgents neutralized: 19
- Arrested violent extremists: 68
- Rescued kidnapped hostages: 13
North West (Operation Hadarin Daji):
- Terrorists neutralized: 58
- Arrested: 5
- Rescued kidnapped hostages: 76
- Recovered weapons and ammunition: 29 AK47 rifles, 17 locally fabricated guns, 524 rounds of 7.62mm special, 343 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and 56 rounds of 9mm ammo, among others.
South East (Operation Whirl Punch):
- Terrorists neutralized: 93
- Arrested violent extremists: 32
- Rescued kidnapped hostages: 14
- Recovered weapons and ammunition: 55 AK47 rifles, 14 locally fabricated guns, 1,123 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 411 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, among others.
Niger Delta (Operation Safe Haven):
- Dugout pits destroyed: 134
- Boats destroyed: 79
- Storage tanks destroyed: 116
- Recovered stolen crude oil: 2.9 million litres
- Recovered illegally refined AGO: 251,800 litres
- Recovered DPK: 6,125 litres
- Recovered PMS: 6,790 litres
These operations highlight the ongoing successes in the counter-insurgency efforts across the country.
