IKEJA ELECTRIC CUTS TARIFFS FOR BAND A CUSTOMERS!

Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IE) has delivered some welcome news for its customers! In a recent announcement, IE has reduced electricity tariffs for Band A customers. This move comes after the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) increased rates for this category in April 2024.

What’s the Change?

Previously, Band A customers were facing a rate of N225 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). However, Ikeja Electric has implemented a downward revision, bringing the new rate down to N206.80/kWh. This translates to a discount of N18.20 per kWh.

Who Benefits?

This reduction applies specifically to Band A customers. These customers are categorized by NERC based on the guaranteed availability of electricity supply. Band A signifies a commitment from the electricity distribution company to provide 20-24 hours of power supply daily.

Why the Reduction?

While NERC initially increased rates for Band A, it appears Ikeja Electric is aiming to incentivize customers who experience the promised level of service. This price adjustment could be seen as a reward for consistent power supply within Band A.

Impact and Considerations

This news is certainly positive for Band A customers under Ikeja Electric’s network. They will enjoy a lower electricity bill while presumably receiving the promised reliable power supply. However, it’s important to note that the tariff reduction is exclusive to Band A. Customers in Bands B, C, D, and E will not see a change in their electricity rates at this time.

Overall, Ikeja Electric’s decision demonstrates a commitment to rewarding customers who receive consistent electricity supply. This targeted price adjustment could potentially encourage customers in other bands to prioritize on-time bill payments to potentially qualify for Band A and its associated benefits in the future.
