GOVERNOR MAKINDE MOURNS FORMER MINISTER PRINCE AJIBOLA AFONJA
Afonja, a former Chairman of First Bank Plc, passed away on Sunday night at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan at the age of 82.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed his sorrow over the death of former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Prince Ajibola Afonja, calling the news shocking.
In a statement released by Moses Alao, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Print Media, on Tuesday in Ibadan, Governor Makinde mourned the loss of Afonja, who was also a distinguished son of Oyo town. Afonja’s passing was reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Governor Makinde highlighted Afonja’s contributions to the state, noting that he was an illustrious figure who represented and promoted Oyo State admirably. He extended his condolences to Afonja’s immediate family, the people of Oyo town, and the entire state.
The governor prayed for the peaceful repose of Afonja’s soul and for divine support for the family and community he left behind.
“I received the news of the death of a former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Prince Ajibola Afonja, with shock and sadness,” Governor Makinde said. “Prince Afonja was a great ambassador of Oyo State who promoted the state and made immense contributions to its growth. It is my prayer that God grants his soul repose and him Aljana Firdausi.”
