GEBEYA & UNHCR: UNLOCKING REFUGEE TALENT FOR BUSINESSES
Gebeya Inc a leading Pan-African tech leadership company that specializes in Saas-enabled custom Talent Cloud innovation, and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.
In Ethiopia have officially launched a digital platform that will help refugees better market their skills and talents, unlocking professional opportunities in the digital economy.
A new initiative is bridging the gap between skilled refugees and potential employers in Africa. BoundlessSkills.com, a platform launched by Gebeya and the UNHCR, aims to connect refugees with rewarding career opportunities in the digital economy.
Empowering Refugees Through Digital Skills
Since its launch in November 2023, Boundless Skills has already onboarded nearly 300 refugees. This program recognizes the tremendous potential of displaced people and aims to unlock their skills for self-reliance and economic contribution. Leul Girma, COO of Gebeya, highlights the platform’s potential to be replicated and expanded, offering a powerful pathway for refugees across the continent.
Building on Strategic Partnerships
The Boundless Skills partnership is a collaborative effort made possible by the generous support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands through the PROSPECTS Opportunity Fund. It also aligns with the Ethiopian government’s pledge at the Global Refugee Forum to create economic opportunities for both refugees and host communities.
Margaret Atieno, UNHCR’s Deputy Representative in Ethiopia, emphasizes the critical need for solutions that integrate refugees into the economic sector. Boundless Skills empowers refugees to earn a living, become self-sufficient, and contribute meaningfully to the digital economy.
A Diverse Talent Pool for Businesses
The platform offers a wide range of skills, both technical and non-technical. From software development and data analysis to digital marketing and customer care, refugees can showcase their expertise and connect with businesses seeking qualified talent.
Scaling the Impact
To further strengthen its impact, Boundless Skills has partnered with organizations like the Refugee Investment Network (RIN) and the Amahoro Coalition. RIN focuses on connecting refugees with decent work opportunities, while Amahoro works to provide solutions for refugees through job creation.
Amahoro plays a key role in scaling the talent pool. Their goal is to onboard over 2,000 skilled refugees onto Gebeya’s Talent Cloud ecosystem. These pre-vetted talents will then be connected with job opportunities through Amahoro’s network of private sector partners.
A Beacon of Hope for Refugees
Ethiopia, currently hosting nearly 1 million refugees, is the third-largest refugee host country in Africa. The success of Boundless Skills in onboarding 300 refugees by April 2024 paves the way for significant expansion across the continent.
Join the Movement
Businesses and organizations seeking access to this diverse talent pool and interested in getting involved with Boundless Skills are encouraged to visit the platform and explore the opportunities available.
This initiative offers a glimmer of hope for a brighter future for refugees in Africa. By harnessing their skills and connecting them with meaningful work, Boundless Skills empowers refugees to thrive and contribute to the continent’s economic growth. Boundless Skills Talent Cloud.
