FORMER LEGISLATOR ENCOURAGES VICE CHANCELLORS, RECTORS, PROVOSTS TO OPPOSE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES REGARDING TETFUND’S N683 BILLION
A former member of the House of Representatives, Professor Haruna Yerima, has advised vice-chancellors, polytechnic rectors, and college of education provosts to resist pressure and intimidation from certain members of the House of Representatives concerning the N683 billion allocated to TETFund in 2024.
Yerima responded to reports of alleged extortion by the House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and Other Services.
Administrators of tertiary institutions expressed concern about the undue interference in their internal affairs regarding the implementation of the N683 billion allocated to the institutions under the TETFund scheme in 2024 by President Bola Tinubu.
A professor of public administration at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Yerima represented Biu, Shani, Kwaya, and Bayo Federal Constituency of Borno State from 2003 to 2007.
He stated, “The behavior exhibited by some of the honorable members regarding the N683 billion TETFund allocation is, to put it mildly, dishonorable and unbecoming of elected representatives of the people. What the VCs, rectors, and provosts are objecting to echoes a regrettable past where lawmakers sought financial gains to approve budgets of certain ministries and agencies or screen presidential appointees.”
