FEDERAL GOVERNMENT UNVEILS SMART SCHOOLS FEATURING AI, CODING, AND ROBOTICS

The introduction of Design Thinking, Coding, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence (DTCRA) into the recently established smart schools nationwide has been announced by the Federal Government.

Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), revealed the government’s commitment to providing learners in smart schools with essential skills that contribute to the technological advancement of Nigeria.

At a workshop held at the Digital Resource Centre (DRC) of UBEC, Dr. Bobboyi spoke on “Integrating Design Thinking, Coding, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence (DTCRA) into the Smart Schools Programme,” emphasizing the importance of equipping students with skills that foster critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and problem-solving.

The UBEC’s vision to integrate DTCRA in smart schools aims to cultivate globally competitive learners, according to Dr. Bobboyi. Prof. Bashir Galadanci, the National Coordinator of the Digital Resource Centre (DRC), highlighted that the workshop brought together experts from academia, the private sector, and the Commission to strategize on integrating DTCRA skills into smart schools.

The Commission had recently established 37 smart schools across the country as part of an ambitious program within the basic education subsector. These smart schools, distributed in each state of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, aim to provide modern blended teaching methods and state-of-the-art technologies to enhance learning outcomes. Fourteen of these schools have already commenced operations in various parts of the country.
