Automotive enthusiasts, car owners, salespersons, auto-mechanics, fleet maintenance teams, vendors, and others had the opportunity to witness the evolution of technology in cars at the inaugural edition of the Lagos Motor Show.

The Lagos Motor Show is a comprehensive exhibition showcasing various types of cars. It took place on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the popular Tafawa Balawa Square in Lagos. The event featured classic, vintage, and electric cars, including electric-powered motorbikes and vehicles.

During the two-day event, Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, the chief promoter of the Lagos Motor Show, shared that his inspiration for the event stems from his passion for motoring, dating back to his early days as a young undergraduate. He expressed, “As a young undergraduate many years ago, I wrote articles about the future of motoring in Nigeria. Thus, today we are making history by displaying our passion for motoring because we are a people with history.”

The Lagos Motor Show exhibited cars manufactured before Nigeria’s Independence in 1960, those produced after Independence, and contemporary as well as future cars, including electric vehicles.

LargeHouse, a collection of Landrover cars, and other motor companies such as BMW and ‘Work and Play,’ a prominent motor sport and recreation company, played significant roles in the success of the maiden edition of the Lagos Motor Show.

The event provided an opportunity to engage with car enthusiasts, potential buyers, and professionals from haulage, logistics, car-hire companies, digital taxi services, passenger transporters, financial institutions, insurance, and loans companies. Decision-makers in the auto industry also participated.

HRH Barrister Mohammed Sanni Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV, the Royal Father of the event (Mai Borgu), The Emir of Borgu Kingdom, Niger State, expressed during a tour of the various car categories that the Lagos Motor Show made history by reviving memories of classic and vintage cars. He emphasized that the show contributes to uniting Nigerians in the face of economic challenges.

He urged collective responsibility from all Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to make the country a better place. He discouraged public demonstrations and highlighted the importance of citizens’ commitment.

Another participant, car enthusiast Olu Okeowo, likened the Lagos Motor Show to esteemed international events like the annual Chicago Motor Show and the Munich Auto Show. He expressed that the Lagos Motor Show should be the aspiration of all car lovers in the Nigerian motoring community, appreciating the display of preserved cars by collectors and the showcase of old and vintage cars.
