Eutelsat Group and South African satellite enterprise Q-KON have marked a significant milestone by deploying the first operational Eutelsat OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite service in Africa. The installation took place at an undisclosed branch of a digital bank in South Africa, where three digital-only banks—TymeBank, Discovery Bank, and Bank Zero—operate.

Q-KON’s Twoobii Smart Satellite Services installation ensures a consistent Internet connection speed of 50 megabits per second (Mbps) with minimal delay. This satellite-based connection serves as a reliable backup plan in case of ground hardware or power supply issues, guaranteeing a stable internet connection.

This development holds notable importance for enhancing connectivity for African financial institutions, particularly those in the digital banking sector. The Twoobii LEO solution not only provides reliable Internet access but also includes essential security measures for the instantaneous transfer of private financial information.

The launch of this satellite service enables banks to continue their operations seamlessly in the face of terrestrial restrictions. The Twoobii LEO solution plays a crucial role in various operational and customer-facing procedures, including branch management, intranet services, software-defined wide area networks (SD-WANs), staff and customer Wi-Fi, data backhauls, and ATMs.

Overall, this deployment paves the way for further development and improved connectivity in the African banking sector, showcasing the practical utility of the Q-KON Twoobii Eutelsat OneWeb solution within the context of financial services.
