The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs have initiated a stakeholder forum aimed at addressing women’s empowerment issues.
The gathering, titled “An elevated multi-sectoral roundtable meeting,” brought together participants from diverse civil society groups, gender-based organizations, and international partners.
During the opening ceremony, the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Ohanenye, highlighted that the meeting serves as a platform for direct engagement and insights among stakeholders. The goal is to formulate strategies and initiatives that foster significant positive changes in the lives of women and girls across Nigeria.
Ohanenye expressed gratitude for the collective commitment demonstrated by the presence of attendees in addressing challenges and barriers hindering gender equality and women’s empowerment in the country.
The ministry’s work plan, presented to stakeholders, outlined economic and skills empowerment programs for women in society.
Onyinye Belinda Ndubuisi, the program lead of the UNDP Gender and Human Rights, reassured ongoing support for gender programs in Nigeria. She emphasized that the event provided a collaborative platform for stakeholders to address issues related to women and girls.
Stakeholders delivered presentations outlining their efforts in supporting women through skills acquisition, combating gender-based violence, and other pertinent areas.
