CHESS IN SLUMS AFRICA COLLABORATE WITH AIRLINE TO ESTABLISH ACADEMY AND STEM LAB
Tunde Onakoya’s initiative, Chess Slum Africa, has entered a three-year partnership with Lufthansa Airlines Global to establish a Chess Academy and an Innovation Laboratory in Lagos.
Onakoya shared this development on his LinkedIn page, emphasizing that the learning hub will be accessible and free for underprivileged children without access to education.
Reflecting on the journey, Tunde, in high spirits, described the deal as a significant milestone. He recounted how he had envisioned the establishment of the world’s largest Chess Academy two years ago, aiming to provide educational access to underprivileged individuals.
He expressed, ‘This is a dream come true for all of us. I remember tweeting on this exact day two years ago about my dream to build the biggest chess academy in the world. A place that could serve as a secure learning haven for children in poverty, offering them access to education and imparting relevant skills for the future. A place where we could nurture our brightest minds and set them on a path to change the world with their ideas.
I didn’t know it was going to come to fruition then, but I believe this partnership is the start of something beautiful.
Tunde Onakoya, a Nigerian Chess master, coach, and the founder of Chess in Slums in Africa, has orchestrated several initiatives for children in various slums across Lagos State, including Majidun (Ikorodu), Makoko, and Oshodi.
