CAUTION TO TECH ENTHUSIASTS! NAFDAC ALERTS ABOUT UNREGISTERED CARO WHITE LOTION RECALLED IN EUROPE.
The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is issuing a warning to Nigerians regarding a skin-lightening lotion called Caro White, which is currently under recall in Europe. The European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products (RAPEX) has identified the product, specifically labeled as “Caro White Skin Lightening Beauty Lotion,” for surpassing the permitted level of Kojic Acid.
Kojic Acid, a common ingredient in lightening creams, can cause disruptions in the body’s hormonal balance when present in high concentrations. The European Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) has established a maximum concentration limit of 1% for Kojic Acid in cosmetic products.
Although the Caro White Skin Lightening Beauty Lotion in question is not registered with NAFDAC, it is available in Nigeria, prompting the agency to advise caution. NAFDAC is urging importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise vigilance and avoid the product if encountered.
Individuals in possession of the Caro White Skin Lightening Beauty Lotion, manufactured with batch number LB2.1790.B and barcode 6181100538892, are advised to discontinue its use immediately and return the product to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Furthermore, healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report any adverse reactions experienced while using this lotion. Reports can be submitted through various channels, including email to pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, the E-reporting platforms on the NAFDAC website, or through the Med-safety application.
This warning follows a similar incident in July 2023, where a different “Caro White” product sold in the UK was recalled due to the presence of prohibited substances. NAFDAC underscores the importance of product authentication and urges consumers to exercise caution when dealing with unregulated beauty products.
