BRIDGING HEALTHCARE: MY 1HEALTH’S ENDEAVOR TO CONNECT PATIENTS WITH GLOBAL HEALTH EXPERTISE

Between 2011 and 2019, life expectancy across sub-Saharan Africa rose from 57.56 to 61.24 years.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a notable increase in life expectancy in Africa, a region that, at the turn of the millennium, saw life expectancy at just 50 years. The rise is attributed to factors such as economic growth and advancements in disease prevention and treatment.

Economic growth has facilitated improved access to basic infrastructure, including clean drinking water, crucial for overall health. Advances in disease prevention and treatment have notably reduced the fatality of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and Tuberculosis, particularly among young people.

However, Africa still grapples with significant healthcare challenges. A 2021 report indicates that nearly half of Africans lack access to necessary healthcare. Even when access is available, obtaining healthcare can be a time-consuming and frustrating process, evident in the long queues at hospitals and clinics.

Addressing these challenges on a global scale, My 1Health, founded in Nairobi, Kenya in 2018, serves as a medical facilitator dedicated to providing ordinary Africans access to specialized global healthcare services.

Beyond connecting individuals with healthcare expertise, My 1Health offers services such as emergency medical evacuations, case reviews by specialists, and tailored health packages for early detection of critical conditions. The platform also assists with visa applications, airport transfers, hotel bookings, travel itineraries, and post-treatment follow-ups.

Ephraim Mwangi, Head of Growth Marketing at My1Health, emphasizes the company’s commitment to simplifying global healthcare access, irrespective of location. The platform’s evolution and expansion of services align with its central vision and dedication to global impact in specialized healthcare.

A pivotal moment in realizing this vision was the merger of International Medical Treatment Ltd and My Health Africa, creating a unified platform and positioning My 1Health as a global leader in medical facilitation. The merger expanded the network to over 1,500 doctors, 100+ hospitals, enabling over 40,000 medical journeys.

My 1Health’s collaborative approach and strategic partnerships with healthcare professionals, hospitals, and clinics have contributed to its success. Despite challenges such as language barriers and market competition, the platform’s focus on technology and facilitation services has proven effective.

Looking ahead, My 1Health aims to expand its global footprint, with plans to extend to the Middle East and South Asia. The platform envisions being a global leader in medical facilitation services through technology, patient-centricity, and strategic partnerships, ensuring accessible healthcare worldwide.
