BREAKING NEWS: REMOTELI, A STARTUP FOCUSED ON GHANAIAN TALENT, SECURES £250,000 IN FUNDING FROM PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLER JEREMIE FRIMPONG.
In a recent development, Remoteli, a startup based in Ghana that specializes in connecting African tech talents with remote work opportunities, has successfully secured £250,000 ($314,824) in pre-seed funding. The purpose of this funding is to scale up operations and extend its reach across the African continent.
The funding initiative was spearheaded by Jeremie Frimpong, a professional footballer of Ghanaian-Dutch origin, known for his role as a right wing-back for Bundesliga club Bayern Leverkusen. Frimpong’s investment aligns with a growing trend where football stars actively support and invest in tech startups. This trend was notably observed in 2023 when French football players Aurelien Tchouameni, Jules Kounde, and Mike Maignan participated in a $3 million funding round for StarNews Mobile, an African mobile video network.
Samuel Brooksworth, the founder of Remoteli, shared with TechCabal that he initiated the company after identifying a gap between talented young graduates struggling to secure employment and decision-makers within organizations facing challenges in business growth during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The primary objective of our collaboration with Jeremie Frimpong is to propel Remoteli towards our ambitious goal of facilitating employment for 1 million people by 2030,” Brooksworth explained to TechCabal.
As part of the partnership with Frimpong, Remoteli introduced the Pathways project, aimed at addressing the hurdles faced by young footballers whose careers did not unfold as expected. The Pathways project provides fresh opportunities, and with support from Remoteli in training and upskilling, these athletes can explore potential careers beyond the field.
Frimpong expressed his optimism and commitment to making a positive impact on more people’s lives. “I invested because I believe in what Remoteli is trying to do. I care a lot about developing people and places that don’t have a lot of opportunities because that is the background I come from. When Samuel pitched the idea to me, I bought in immediately,” shared the footballer in an interview with TechCabal.

Remoteli emphasizes its strategic focus on bootstrapping and minimal fundraising to facilitate organic growth. The startup features AI-powered software that effectively matches organizations with qualified tech talent. Additionally, it is actively developing a suite of tools and resources designed to empower companies globally by connecting them with talented African professionals. These resources include project management tools, seamless communication channels, time tracking, invoicing solutions, and customizable features tailored to the specific needs of each organization.
Remoteli claims to have directly hired over 100 individuals and supported more than 100 dedicated clients. The startup recently expanded its operations to Kigali, Rwanda, and has plans to further extend its presence to several other African countries in 2024. Remoteli is eyeing a Series A funding round later in the year.
