ARRIVAL OF UK MINISTER FOR BUSINESS AND TRADE KEMI BADENOCH IN NIGERIA
According to the source, Kemi Badenoch, UK Minister for Business and Trade, has commenced a 3-day visit to Nigeria aimed at strengthening the UK-Nigeria partnership.
Following the visit of the former Foreign Secretary to Nigeria in August 2023, and recent UK-Nigeria Security and Defence Talks, Minister Badenoch’s visit aims to advance ongoing efforts to enhance the UK-Nigeria trade relationship and identify new investment prospects.
During her stay, Minister Kemi Badenoch and the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria, Helen Grant, will hold meetings with the Federal Government of Nigeria, State Governors, as well as British and Nigerian business leaders and investors.
Through these engagements, she will explore existing and potential investment and trade ventures spanning education, infrastructure, and energy projects, with the potential to generate thousands of jobs.
Minister Badenoch seeks to reinforce the UK-Nigeria partnership, eliminate trade and investment barriers, promote business growth between the two nations, and enhance the accessibility of the City of London’s facilitating role for international business in Nigeria.
Commenting on her visit, Dr. Richard Montgomery, British High Commissioner to Nigeria, emphasized Nigeria’s significance as one of the UK’s key partners in Africa. He reiterated the commitment to supporting Nigeria in unlocking new investment opportunities and fostering more UK and international investment through the City of London, thereby creating jobs in both countries.

Kemi Badenoch MP was appointed Secretary of State for the Department for Business and Trade on 7 February 2023.
She continues to serve as Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade, roles she assumed on 6 September 2022, and Minister for Women and Equalities for the Equality Hub, a position she has held since 25 October 2022.
Previously, she served as Minister of State at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities from 16 September 2021 to 6 July 2022, and Minister of State (Minister for Equalities) in the Equality Hub from 14 February 2020 to July 2022.
The Secretary of State bears overall responsibility for the Department for Business and Trade.
