Anambra approves ₦489m for night-landing equipment at Chinua Achebe Airport

The Anambra State government has approved ₦489 million for the installation of night-landing equipment at the Chinua Achebe International Airport in Umueri, located in the Anambra East Local Government Area.This initiative aims to enhance the airport’s operational capacity, making it more appealing to airlines and passengers.
According to Dr. Law Mefor, the Commissioner for Information, the decision was made during the 34th Anambra State Executive Council meeting. He stated: “The Anambra State Executive Council has adopted a series of measures, including the installation of Airfield Lighting at Chinua Achebe International Airport to facilitate night landings.”
The contract for the airfield lighting project, awarded to Mercy Aviation Communication Electronics and Industries Nig Ltd, is valued at ₦489,716,250 and is expected to be completed within two weeks.
Additional projects approved by the council include:
Development of Heritage and Tourism Master Plan
Contract awarded to Red Clay Consulting at a cost of ₦125,807,290.63.
Reconstruction of COOU Teaching Hospital Gate
Awarded to Triseconds Resources Ltd. for ₦112,700,000, with completion expected in two months.
