Applications are now open for the 2024/2025 AIMS South Africa/DeepMind AI for Science Master’s Scholarship Program.

AI for Science is a specialization within AIMS South Africa’s Master’s degree in Mathematical Science, established in collaboration with Google DeepMind. Positioned at the dynamic intersection of AI and the Sciences, this program welcomed its inaugural student cohort in September 2023. It is a fully residential one-year taught master’s program featuring a research component. Applications are invited from passionate individuals across Africa with a keen interest in mathematics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. We seek students with a sense of wonder for the world, aspiring to leverage their skills to advance scientific exploration.

Eligibility Requirements:

To qualify for the AI for Science program, you must:

  • Be a resident in Africa at the time of application.
  • Be a citizen of any African country.
  • Hold a completed four-year undergraduate degree or a three-year undergraduate degree with an honors year by August 2024 (or December 2024 for southern African applicants; refer to FAQ).
  • Possess an undergraduate degree in physics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or any discipline with a robust computational and mathematical component.

Register at apply.aims.ac.za and upload the following documents there before 11:59 PM on 29 March 2024:

Your application should include:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • A motivation letter of approximately 500 words
  • Academic transcripts
  • Written mathematics questions (available on the application site)
  • Coding problem (available on the application site)

The online application incorporates a set of short mathematics questions and a coding problem. While not an exam, these questions offer the selection panel insights into your problem-solving approach. It’s advisable to initiate the application process early, and prospective DeepMind Scholars at AIMS South Africa are encouraged to start applying well in advance.

Interviews:

The final selection stage involves brief online interviews scheduled for April 2024.
