SANWO-OLU SWEARS IN 13 NEW JUDGES, CLAIMS LAGOS HAS BEST JUDICIAL SYSTEM

Inauguration Ceremony:

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administered the oath of office to 13 new judges at the Government House in Alausa, Ikeja. He congratulated the judges and emphasized their responsibility to uphold justice.

Judicial Strength and Excellence:

The addition of these 13 judges brings the total number of judges appointed by Sanwo-Olu’s administration to 37. During the ceremony, Sanwo-Olu stated, “This week is all about the judiciary – from the just-concluded summit to the swearing-in of 13 outstanding judges. This swearing-in is not just a formality; it is a testimony to the fact that Lagos State has the best judicial system. Our judiciary must continually benchmark itself against global best practices, and I believe we are on the right track.”

Previous Appointments and Achievements:

Sanwo-Olu highlighted that his administration had previously appointed 24 judges. He acknowledged the significant contribution of the Chief Justice in maintaining high standards, noting that many of the new judges are graduates of Lagos State University. “This demonstrates that Lagos is truly a state of excellence. Also, the Badagry division has a good representation here, ensuring no part of our state is left behind,” he added.

Call for Non-Interference:

The governor urged the families and friends of the new judges not to pressure them, but to allow them to perform their duties impartially. “This job comes with a lot of pressure. Please do not add to it. Do not interfere in judicial matters and processes. To the new judges, showcase your brilliance and dedication. I wish you the best,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Chief Judge’s Remarks:

Justice Kazeem Alogba, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, administered the oath of office to the new judges. He remarked that the selected judges stood out among 300 applicants due to their brilliance and hard work. “Don’t be afraid, do your job diligently. Your hard work has brought you this far, do not relent,” he encouraged.

Acknowledgment of Support:

Justice Alogba thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for his consistent support and understanding of the separation of powers.

List of Newly-Sworn Judges:

The newly sworn-in judges are: Justices Fimisola Azeez, Alfred George, Yewande Badejo-Okusanya, Oyeladun Layinka, Adenike Shonubi, Tunde Sunmonu, Russell Adewale, Nalirat Ojuromi, Adegboyega Balogun, Tanimola Anjorin-Ajose, Olawale Alebiosu, Abdul-Raheem Muyindeen, and Oluwatosin Popoola.

By recognizing the excellence and integrity of the judiciary, Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to maintaining a leading judicial system and ensuring justice for all.
