INTERACT-AFRICA PHD AND MSC SCHOLARSHIPS 2024/2025 FOR AFRICANS

INTERACT-Africa is an Intra-Africa Academic mobility project funded by the European Union (EU). The project focuses on Chemistry, Biology, and Information Technology, emphasizing the conversion of organic waste into valuable bioproducts to foster environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive economies.

Objectives

  1. Inclusive Learning Mobility:
    • Enhance capacity building in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) by offering training and education in green Chemistry, Biology, and Information Technology.
    • Develop a skilled workforce capable of implementing sustainable practices.
  2. Fostering Entrepreneurship:
    • Support the establishment of green technology businesses in Africa.
    • Provide mentorship, access to funding, and technical support to aspiring entrepreneurs and start-ups in green Chemistry, Biology, and Information Technology.
  3. Networking and Knowledge Sharing:
    • Promote innovation and sustainable economic growth.
    • Offer internships, cooperative education programs, and hands-on learning opportunities.

Scholarship Information

INTERACT-Africa offers 28 postgraduate scholarships for degree-seeking mobility:

  • PhD Scholarships: 5 available, with a maximum duration of 36 months.
  • Master’s Scholarships: 23 available, with a maximum duration of 24 months.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Meet the minimum requirements for admission into Master’s and PhD programs as stipulated by the host university’s Senate/regulating body.
  • Provide proof of being a national and resident of an eligible African country.
  • Reside in Africa at the time of application.
  • Submit a one-page research concept paper in the intended area of study.
  • Obtain an admission letter from the host university.
  • Not have previously benefited from a scholarship under the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme 2022-2027.
  • Commit to not benefiting from another EU-funded scholarship scheme during the Intra-Africa mobility period.
  • Provide a motivation letter reflecting innovative technologies in climate change and mitigation.
  • Submit two recommendation/reference letters, one from an academic advisor or professor/lecturer.
  • Be willing to study in an eligible country other than their own.
  • Provide proof of special needs where applicable.
  • For non-English speakers, an English proficiency level of B2 (CEFR) or its equivalent is mandatory for institutions where English is the language of instruction.
  • For IFA-YANGAMBI, a French proficiency level of B2 or its equivalent is mandatory.

Funding

  • PhD Students:
    • Monthly stipend of 1,230 Euros.
    • Includes travel costs to and from the host institution, visa costs, and a settling allowance.
  • Master’s Students:
    • Monthly stipend of 890 Euros.
    • Includes travel costs to and from the host institution, visa costs, and a settling allowance.
  • Additional Coverage:
    • Tuition fees and research costs for the duration of the study.
    • Comprehensive health and accident insurance.

Language of Instruction

  • English: Moi University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Addis Ababa University, and Sokoine University of Agriculture.
  • French: Institut Facultaire Des Sciences Agronomiques De Yangambi (IFA-Yangambi).

  • Interested candidates should fill out the online scholarship application form.

  • Applicants must also apply concurrently to the host university for admission. Scholarships will only be awarded to candidates with admission letters from the host university.
