PARADIGM INITIATIVE’S LIFE LEGACY PROGRAMME EQUIPS 39 NAIROBI YOUTH
Thirty-nine students completed Paradigm Initiative (PIN), a pan-African non-governmental organization’s 10-week-long LIFE (Life Skills, ICT Skills, Financial Readiness, and Entrepreneurship Skills) Legacy training.
Graduation Ceremony
The trainees from Cohorts One and Two of the LIFE Legacy Programme were awarded attestations of completion at a graduation ceremony held at Strathmore University, Nairobi.
Programme Impact
According to Paradigm Initiative, this initiative aims to address the unemployment challenge in Kenya. The graduation of this first batch of students from underserved communities signifies the programme’s early success.
Event Highlights
Mr. Timothy Were, ICT Deputy Director at the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy in Kenya, attended the event. He emphasized the critical role of digital skills in today’s economy and the importance of empowering youth from underserved communities. He stated, “The LIFE Legacy Programme represents more than a training course; it embodies a powerful vision of empowerment, inclusion, and opportunity.”
Collaboration and Future Goals
Alphonce Odhiambo, Founder of Gonline Africa, spoke at the event, highlighting the need for continued efforts to support the youth. He stressed the importance of collaboration among digital sector organizations to position the youth in the digital economy.
Programme Origins and Advocacy
Khadijah El-Usman, Paradigm Initiative’s Senior Programmes Officer for Anglophone Africa, discussed the origins of the LIFE Legacy Programme and its impact on underserved youth and communities across Africa. Judith Ogutu, the organization’s Communications Manager, highlighted their advocacy for digital rights, policy development, and the state of digital rights and inclusion on the continent. She presented digital advocacy tools such as Ayeta, Ripoti, the Londa report, and short films inspired by the report.
Programme Expansion and Reach
Launched in 2007 in Ajegunle, Nigeria, the Paradigm Initiative LIFE Legacy Programme has expanded to multiple African nations. Since its inception in Kenya in September 2023, the programme has trained 80 young individuals from Kibera in Nairobi and Tana River in Coastal Kenya, equipping them with necessary digital skills.
Programme Objectives
The LIFE Legacy Programme, which stands for Life Skills, ICT Skills, Financial Readiness, and Entrepreneurship Skills, aims to create opportunities for youth to access internships, online work, or entrepreneurial ventures, enabling them to earn immediate and sustainable income. The programme is currently being implemented in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, and Zimbabwe, impacting the lives of over 150,000 young Africans.
