LEAP Africa Seeks Young Changemakers for Social Innovators Fellowship (SIPA) 2024!
Applications are now open for the 2024 LEAP Africa’s Social Innovators Programme. In 2004, LEAP Africa came to the realization that while negative reports of youth restiveness and crimes were widespread in local and foreign media, the positive contributions of young Nigerians towards national transformation were unrecognized.
Background:
LEAP Africa recognizes the vital role young people play in driving social change. They previously celebrated these contributions through the Annual Nigerian Youth Leadership Awards (ANYLA). However, they identified a need to equip young innovators with the skills and support necessary to build sustainable social enterprises.
The SIPA Fellowship:
Launched in 2013, the Social Innovators Programme and Awards (SIPA) empowers young changemakers with the tools they need to establish long-lasting social ventures.
Eligibility:
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of an African nation.
- Your social enterprise must be located in Africa.
- Have founded or co-founded a social venture with at least one year of impact.
- Be between 18 and 35 years old as of February 20th, 2024.
- Be proficient in written and spoken English (application must be completed in English).
- Commit to full participation from February 20th to October 26th, 2024, including potential in-person visits and virtual learning sessions.
Program Structure:
The SIPA Fellowship focuses on building capacity, connections, and credibility for young innovators. It includes:
- 5-day in-person workshop: Focuses on enterprise sustainability.
- Virtual coaching and networking calls.
- Immersive one-on-one mentoring sessions.
- Monthly virtual webinars.
- Site visits (optional).
