MARCOM 2023 HONORS QNET WITH GOLD FOR IMPACTFUL FINANCIAL LITERACY VIDEO

QNET’s enlightening video on the transformative effects of its financial literacy initiative, Fingreen, has been recognized with a prestigious gold award at the 2023 MarCom Awards.

Named “FinGreen: Cultivating Financial Literacy for a Bright Tomorrow,” the video spotlights QNET’s FinGreen program—a peer-to-peer educational initiative crafted to enhance financial comprehension in disadvantaged communities.

The video begins with a notable statistic: only one in three adults globally possesses financial literacy. It then delves into how FinGreen aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals by addressing inequality and fostering opportunities for decent work and economic growth.

Initially launched in Turkey and Nigeria in 2022, with subsequent expansion to Ghana in 2023, FinGreen primarily targets women and youth in developing regions.

“FinGreen is designed for women and youth in emerging economies,” says Malou Caluza, CEO of QNET. “Historically, women have faced limited access to financial services compared to men. While mobile banking and payment platforms have improved accessibility, many still lack the essential knowledge for making informed financial decisions.”

According to experts at the International Federation of Accountants, individuals lacking financial literacy are more susceptible to fraud, less likely to save, more likely to accumulate significant debt, and face a higher risk of bankruptcy.

Mogbeyiro Gbemisola, a 17-year-old Nigerian student, shares, “FinGreen taught me the importance of money management. I’m now committed to educating other young people in my community about financial literacy for a safer, more prosperous future.”

The FinGreen program collaborates with local experts to identify underserved communities in need of greater education and inclusion.

In the initial phase in Nigeria, 20 youth leaders underwent training, and in the subsequent phase, these 20 ‘ambassadors’ conducted workshops nationwide, imparting financial education to over 600 Nigerian youths.

Olaniyi Shalom Anuoluwapo, a 20-year-old Nigerian founder of Teen Girls Entourage, remarks, “FinGreen has revolutionized my approach to money management. It has fostered a savings culture in me and my family, reshaping our financial habits.”

Caluza sees the MarCom award as a testament to the video’s success in conveying FinGreen’s mission of individual empowerment for community upliftment.

The MarCom Awards, a premier international creative competition, received 6,500 entries from over 47 countries this year. “FinGreen: Cultivating Financial Literacy for a Bright Tomorrow” secured a gold trophy for outstanding achievement.

Buoyed by FinGreen’s success in Nigeria, Ghana, and Turkey, QNET plans to expand the program to Morocco soon.
