The Women Deliver Emerging Leaders for Change Program is a two-year leadership program supporting young activists in East Africa. It provides resources, training, and connections to help them achieve their goals in advocating for gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

Who can apply?

  • Age: 15-29 years old as of October 1, 2024 (parental consent required for applicants under 18)
  • Location: Live and work in Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, or Uganda (exceptions considered for safety reasons)
  • Gender/Sexuality: Open to all genders and sexual identities, with a focus on girls, women, and non-binary individuals
  • Advocacy focus: Must advocate for SRHR and/or gender equality, particularly issues impacting adolescent girls. Preference given to those working on universal health coverage, climate change, or countering the anti-rights movement.

  • Applications open: April 15, 2024, at 12:00 AM EAT (East Africa Time)
  • Informational sessions (optional):
    • April 29, 2024, 4:00-6:00 PM EAT (Register here)
    • May 15, 2024, 4:00-6:00 PM EAT (Register here)
  • Application deadline: May 30, 2024, at 11:59 PM EAT

Selection Process:

  • June-July 2024: Applications reviewed by a committee. Approximately 60 semi-finalists chosen.
  • Late July 2024: All applicants notified of their semi-finalist status. Semi-finalists invited to schedule a group interview.
  • August 2024: Group interviews conducted with semi-finalists.
  • Late August 2024: Final selections made and all semi-finalists notified.
  • September 2024: Onboarding begins for selected applicants.
  • October 1, 2024: Official program start date.

Additional Information:

  • The program prioritizes applicants from the target countries but may consider exceptions for those whose advocacy work focuses on those countries despite residing elsewhere due to safety concerns.
  • Women Deliver is committed to equitable youth engagement and co-leadership.
