The MCFSP provides a full scholarship to eligible students provisionally admitted to pursue a postgraduate degree at UP. Graduates are expected to return to their home countries post-studies and contribute to community development.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP) targets academically talented yet economically disadvantaged African youth who will contribute to the continent’s transformation.

Mastercard Scholarship at UP Requirements: Eligible candidates for the Mastercard Scholarship at University of Pretoria must:
- Be African citizens.
- Come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and demonstrate financial need.
- Exhibit leadership potential and engage in community service projects.
- Maintain high academic performance consistently.
Mastercard Scholarship at UP Benefits: The Mastercard Scholarship at University of Pretoria, commencing in 2024, covers:
- Full tuition fees
- Accommodation in a UP residence
- Meals
- Books and printed materials
- Monthly stipend
- Medical aid
- Travel costs (one return trip during the study period)
- Visa application costs for the study duration.
Available Programs for Mastercard Scholarship at UP: The scholarship is available for programs offered by the following faculties:
- Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences
- Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences
- Faculty of Humanities (specifically for entry into BPolSci in Political Studies or International Studies)
- Honours and Masters degree applications in Engineering (for continuing students only).

To apply for the Mastercard Scholarship at University of Pretoria, interested and qualified candidates should follow the procedures below;
- You will have to first apply to secure admission to a postgraduate degree at the University of Pretoria.
- Submit your application electronically to mcfsp@up.ac.za or deliver a printed copy to the Department for Education Innovation’s reception office
- Download and complete the hard copy of the postgraduate application form provided below: postgraduate-application-2024.pdf
- Your application will undergo a review process. You will be notified of the outcome afterward.
- Only successful applicants will be contacted for interview.
