United Nations 62nd Graduate Study Programme (GSP) in Geneva, Switzerland

As far as GSP (Graduate Study Programme) at UN Geneva is concerned, it is the longest-running educational initiative of the United Nations that has now landed into its 62nd year. It is a two-week intensive summer seminar that provides an opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of the United Nations and ‘International Geneva’ through, lectures, first-hand observations, networking, and research.

Summit of the Future – Details

This (Summit of the Future) will be conducted at the United Nations Headquarters located in New York from the 22nd to the 23rd of September 2024. The Summit is seen as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to increase cooperation on addressing gaps and critical challenges in world governance, and reaffirm existing commitments including the charter of the United Nations and Sustainable Development Goals, and move towards a reinvigorated multilateral system which is positioned to positively impact people’s lives. The United Nations member states will consider numerous ways to lay the foundations for more effectual world cooperation which can deal with challenges of today plus new threats in the coming future. The outcome of the summit would be an inter-governmentally negotiated, action-oriented pact for the future that comprises a chapeau and five chapters covering:
  1. International Peace and Security
  2. Sustainable Development and Financing for Development
  3. Science, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Cooperation
  4. Transforming Global Governance
  5. Youth and Future Generations

62nd Graduate Study Programme – Details

The United Nations 62nd Graduate Study Programme will be conducted at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The duration will be from 1st to 12th July 2024 under the theme ‘Summit of the Future – Challenges and Opportunities’. At the programme, there will be morning lectures delivered by UN representatives, the civil sector, other international organizations, and diplomats. There will be visits to institutions, and work on group projects in the afternoons. Students will be divided into five working groups, and they will look into five chapters of the Pact for the Future. They will present their findings in presentations and short papers at programme end. It is to be noted that the drafting procedure and this research would be student-led and student-owned with limited type of support from facilitators. It is going to be a very intensive programme laced with an average time commitment of eight to ten hours per day over ten days.

Eligibility Criteria for the 62nd Graduate Study Programme

It is open to presently enrolled graduate students who are in the age brackets of 22 and 32 years. And they are not employed full-time. They need to be proficient/fluent in both written and spoken English.

Benefits Under the United Nations 62nd Graduate Study Programme

Since participation in this beneficial and lucrative programme is free of charge, participants will need to bear the expenses of travel, their visa, boarding, and lodging in Geneva. Remember, the UN Office in Geneva will be in no position to provide the participants with any kind of sponsorships or scholarships.

Selection Criteria for the United Nations 62nd Graduate Study Programme

Academic qualifications, extra-curricular activities, and achievements, related professional experience, motivation, and languages spoken will be taken into consideration. The selection committee will try to ensure fair gender and regional balance. The outcome of the applications will be announced on 1st April 2024.
