NDPC PARTNERS WITH ONDO STATE TO ENHANCE YOUTH SKILLS AND GENERATE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN DATA PROTECTION.

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has indicated its readiness to collaborate with the Ondo state government to foster a culture of data protection while creating employment opportunities for young people in the state.

Dr. Vincent Olatunji, the national commissioner/CEO of NDPC, made this known during a meeting with His Excellency, Olayide Adelami, the Ondo state Deputy Governor, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Friday.

Dr. Olayide stated that the purpose of his visit was to explore potential areas of cooperation between NDPC and the state aimed at promoting development for the people of Ondo State.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to youth development and highlighted ICT as a key area for upskilling youths to enhance their competitiveness in the global job market.

Dr. Olatunji praised the initiative by the Ondo government to leverage data protection for empowering young citizens. He raised concerns about the shortage of data protection officers in Nigeria, noting that only a fraction of available positions are currently filled.

He acknowledged the Deputy Governor’s grasp of the importance of data protection, highlighting the risks associated with unauthorized access to data.

Dr. Olatunji welcomed the proposed collaboration, expressing the Commission’s enthusiasm to partner with the Ondo state government to promote data protection, build capacity, and create employment opportunities within the state.

He emphasized that training and certifying youths as Data Protection Officers would open up job opportunities and enhance global competitiveness.
