NNPC URGES EFCC TO BACK OUR EFFORTS AGAINST CRUDE OIL THEFT
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to assist in combating the problem of crude oil theft in the nation.
During an engaging session held at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, Mr. Mele Kyari, the group chief executive officer of the company, appealed to Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC’s leader, to address the rampant issue of crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism in Nigeria.
Kyari emphasized the significant efforts made by NNPC Ltd. to eliminate corruption from its operations and combat crude oil theft, highlighting the urgent need for EFCC’s involvement in addressing this economic crime.
Expressing concern over the staggering volume of oil stolen daily and the audacity of the perpetrators, Kyari stressed the gravity of crude oil theft as a pervasive economic crime that demands EFCC’s attention.
In addressing the challenges faced, Kyari outlined the extensive measures undertaken by NNPC Ltd., including deactivating illegal refineries and disconnecting thousands of illegal pipeline connections.
He underscored the need for concerted efforts to tackle crude oil theft, emphasizing its detrimental impact on oil production and the nation’s economy.
Kyari further emphasized NNPC Ltd.’s commitment to upholding ethical standards and implementing measures to prevent corruption within the organization. He highlighted the automation of processes to minimize discretionary actions that could foster corruption.
Responding to Kyari’s remarks, Ola Olukoyede commended NNPC Ltd.’s dedication to ethical practices but urged the management to enforce regulations effectively to deter corruption.
The interactive session, initiated by Mr. Mele Kyari, aimed to foster collaboration between NNPC Ltd. and EFCC in combating economic crimes, particularly crude oil theft.
