AGRICULTURE PhD SCHOLARSHIPS 2023
Agriculture PhD scholarships: The Australian government is offering 20 PhD-level Australia Awards (Scholarships) to candidates from eligible African countries for agriculture-related studies. The scholarships are for study in Australia at an Australian university, although it is preferred that any field research is primarily undertaken in Africa.

- Airfares to Australia
- Tuition fees
- Medical cover
- Living allowance
- Return airfare to the awardee’s country of citizenship/residence in Africa for fieldwork/research
- Contribution to research costs
- Yearly reunion airfares (where applicable)
Female applicants and people living with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Target Group:
- Agricultural researchers currently employed by a National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) or regional equivalent in Africa.
- Individuals wishing to undertake doctoral level studies leading to a PhD through an Australian institution to advance a field of study recognized as a priority by their government/employer and benefiting existing, planned, or desired research and development efforts of a NARI or regional equivalent.
- Proposing a research topic contributing to improving food security in Africa and reflective of national and regional priorities.
- Having a clear vision for utilizing gained knowledge and research to improve policy and practice in their home country or region.
- Having a possible research proposal and in-principle support from Australian and African counterpart institution supervisors.
Eligibility:
- Citizen of eligible African countries.
- Resident in their country of citizenship (with exceptions accepted in some cases).
- Satisfy minimum eligibility criteria for Australian Development Scholarships, including meeting Australian tertiary institution entry requirements and having relevant post-Masters work experience.
- English proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.5 with no band score less than 6.0.
