SIFAX GROUP SPEAKS AFTER PORTS & CARGO FIRE INCIDENT

Sifax group, Africa’s rapidly expanding multinational corporation with investments in maritime, aviation, haulage & logistics, oil & gas, and hospitality, has issued a statement in response to a fire incident at its Ports & Cargo Handling Services Limited terminal situated at the Tincan Port, Lagos.

The group stated that the fire, which impacted its IT equipment, did not compromise the data integrity due to backup measures in place.

A communication signed by Muyiwa Akande, corporate communications head at sifax group, states: “We wish to notify all stakeholders of Ports & Cargo Handling Services Limited, a subsidiary of sifax group, about a fire occurrence at our facility located at the Tin Can Island Port, Apapa, Lagos, on Saturday, February 24, 2024.

“The fire incident, which took place in our IT office, resulted in damage to critical IT equipment. However, we are pleased to report that no data loss occurred thanks to the effective backup strategy implemented by the company.

“Although some disruption to our services is anticipated, we are presently collaborating with relevant agencies, notably the Nigerian Customs Service, Tin Can Island Command, to normalize port operations by Monday, February 26, 2024, at the latest.

“We take this opportunity to reassure all stakeholders, including clearing agents, consignees, and other port users, that we have activated our approved business continuity plan to maintain our operations while diligently striving to resume normal port activities as scheduled.

“We extend our gratitude to all stakeholders who have shown concern and solidarity following the incident. Your support is deeply appreciated.

“We also express our appreciation to the Customs Area Controller, Tin Can Island Command of the Nigerian Customs Service, Mr. Dera Nnadi, Mni, and his team for their prompt response post-incident,” the statement concludes.
