NEDBANK TO BRING FINANCIAL LITERACY TO CAMPUS WITH “X-WEEK”

Nedbank is actively promoting financial literacy and providing essential money management tools to South Africa’s youth through a 5-week campus campaign.

These engaging activities target first- and second-year students during X-week, a concept derived from the traditional orientation week (O-week).

This year, the YouthX team from Nedbank is focusing on empowering the youth at Wits, Tshwane University of Technology, Nelson Mandela University, University of KwaZulu-Natal (Westville), and the University of Venda.

Buli Ndlovu, Executive Head of Retail and Business Banking Marketing at Nedbank, emphasizes the bank’s commitment to reaching out to the youth actively. He states, “As financial experts who do good, this is important to us, and we can’t leave it to chance.”

YouthX by Nedbank is dedicated to making a meaningful impact on young people’s lives and assisting them in securing their financial futures.

Financial literacy is deemed crucial for a successful life, and Nedbank aims to educate the youth about making informed money choices early in their spending, borrowing, or investing habits. Buli emphasizes that regardless of a student’s goals, Nedbank is there to offer support.

Each campus visit spans four days, featuring professional bankers to assist students in selecting suitable banking products. The Nedbank X-week stand not only provides banking guidance but also offers opportunities for students to have fun with friends and win prizes, including tablets. This aligns with Nedbank’s strategy to place itself and its tailored offerings in youth spaces where it can have the most significant impact.

Nedbank has also participated in youth-oriented events like Cotton Fest and Hey Neighbour, catering to the preferences of the younger demographic.

In addition to its youth-focused initiatives, Nedbank introduced the MiGoals suite of digital-first products designed to help South Africans manage their finances cost-effectively. The basic MiGoals product comes with simple, low-cost pricing, and Nedbank aims to help the youth navigate the next stage of life after graduation.

The success of the initial X-week activation at Wits is highlighted, with over 350 students signing up for MiGoals accounts as a crucial step towards financial stability. Recognizing the time pressures on first- and second-year students, YouthX by Nedbank strives to make banking accessible and convenient on campus.

Opening and managing a MiGoals account is made easy through the Nedbank Money app, catering to the preferences of the mobile-first generation. Students can also access Unlocked.me, Nedbank’s mobile platform, for free information and tools designed to help them unlock their potential, both in university and later in the workforce.

Unlocked.me offers expert career advice, insights into healthy money habits, and exclusive deals on fashion, lifestyle, tech, and travel. The platform also features the MoveUp tool, providing a range of courses to help individuals create a compelling CV, excel in job interviews, or manage money wisely – all from their mobile devices.
