UNITY BANK PARTNERS SKILLPADDY TO TRAIN 1000 FEMALE SOFTWARE ENGINEERS

Nigerian financial institution, Unity Bank Plc, has joined forces with SkillPaddy for its “Count Her In” tech program, focusing on empowering at least 1000 female participants in Software Engineering Training.

This initiative in IT skill development and empowerment aims to address talent supply gaps and provide individuals with opportunities to achieve their training objectives, launching careers in the tech industry.

Unity Bank will fully sponsor around 40 young girls in this special training initiative, conceived as part of the activities commemorating the International Women’s Day 2024.

With women constituting only 33% of the global tech-related workforce, this program seeks to enhance women’s involvement in the tech industry by delivering a sustainable, impact-driven initiative that tackles gender disparity and enhances inclusion within the tech sector.

All program beneficiaries will undergo training in various aspects of software development, coupled with mentorship and resources necessary for success, including life skills like critical thinking, communication, innovation, and problem-solving.

Mrs. Tomi Somefun, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Unity Bank Plc, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the IWD 2024 theme, #InspireInclusion. She stated that empowering young women reflects the bank’s commitment to promoting inclusion, equality, and diversity across industries.

She added, “As a bank committed to fostering economic empowerment and gender equality, we are proud to partner with SkillPaddy on this initiative to contribute to the training and empowerment of 1,000 female software engineers. Through this programme, we are not only investing in the future of these talented women but also driving innovation and diversity within the tech industry. By providing access to skills training and mentorship, we aim to unlock opportunities and create a more inclusive and thriving digital economy for all.”
