The Tongarewa Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington is a partial fee-based award dedicated to covering tuition fees for one year of study. This scholarship is available for both first-year undergraduate students and those entering postgraduate degree programs at Victoria University of Wellington.

The Tongarewa Scholarship is granted based on academic excellence and is applicable for the academic year following the application. The scholarship is credited towards tuition fees, and shortlisted candidates may be required to provide additional information to support their application. Successful scholarship recipients are assured a place in one of the university’s Halls of Residence, provided they submit an accommodation application to University Accommodation Wellington by the specified deadline.

Eligibility Criteria for the 2024 Tongarewa Scholarship:

To be eligible for the Tongarewa Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• International students paying full international fees.
• Entering their first year of an undergraduate degree or entering a postgraduate degree program.

Ineligibility: Applicants who fall under the following categories are not eligible for this scholarship:

• Completed secondary education at a New Zealand school.
• Completed the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or Foundation Studies Programme.
• Study Abroad or Twinning students from overseas partner universities.
• In their second year of study in the same degree program at Victoria University of Wellington.

Benefits of the Tongarewa Scholarship:

This scholarship covers partial fees and will be applied to tuition fees after the final withdrawal date for the trimester associated with the award. The scholarship award value is either $5,000 or $10,000.
