THE PURPOSE BEHIND THE VISIT OF THE NORTH-EAST AMBASSADORS GROUP TO BORNO STATE
The North-East Ambassadors Group, led by Richard Montgomery, the British High Commissioner, convened in Maiduguri. The delegation met with Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and Theatre Commander Major General Waidi Shaibu, exploring sustainable solutions to displacement challenges. The group, comprised of Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and heads of international organizations, focuses on the security, stabilization, and development of the North-East region, particularly addressing the impact of the prolonged ‘Boko Haram’ insurgency.
The visit aimed to discuss the State’s plans for sustainable solutions for displaced people and host communities, emphasizing the importance of providing choices for internally displaced persons in rebuilding their lives safely. The delegation also visited the Female Second Chance School and Muna Garage informal settlement to engage with displaced communities and assess the impact of government policies.
The discussions emphasized the role of the international community in supporting Nigeria, providing peacebuilding interventions, development aid, and humanitarian assistance for those in immediate need.
